Welcome to Doha 2016
Source ::: The Peninsula

DOHA • The Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday announced that Doha will host 100,000 young people from all over the world to watch the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the year 2016. Doha is one of seven cities bidding to host the Summer Games in 2016. The Qatari capital is competing with Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid, Baku, Prague and Rio de Janeiro to bring the Olympic flame to the Arab world for the first time.
While announcing the move, Sheikh Tamim said: "This initiative is an integral part of our vision for the Doha 2016 Bid: to focus on our shared future - the world's youth. This programme will foster understanding and awareness of the Olympic ideals and will provide participants with the opportunity to experience the Olympic Games first hand and learn about the Olympic Movement and the sports that make up the Olympic Programme. Moreover, this youth initiative will forge new friendships and understanding among the young delegates from all around the world."

Doha round close to breakthrough: U.S. official

By Doug Palmer
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Negotiators in world trade talks have made "a lot of progress" over the past three months and are close to a possible breakthrough, a top U.S. trade official said on Tuesday.
"Our hope is that ministers will be able to meet very soon -- this spring -- to reach an agreement that we can credibly say will open new markets by cutting tariffs," Deputy U.S. Trade Representative John Veroneau told the President's Export Council, a White House advisory group.

Dubai wants 2016 Olympics, possibly

Chris Forrester informed in the following article:
http://rapidtvnews.com/index.php/dubai-wants-2016-olympics-possibly.html

Dubai wants to make a bid for the next available Olympic Games. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s ruler and vice-president of the UAE, told journalists about the possible bid during his state visit to China. He declined to be specific about the target date but said a study would be started immediately. Reportedly Sheikh Mo’s ambition is to use Dubai’s Sport City, now in an advanced stage of construction within the Emirate, as the base for the event. Under construction are 25,000 and 60,000 seat stadiums with more on the drawing board.The Emirate already hosts world-class golf, tennis and rugby – and, of course, equestrian events. Next year Abu Dhabi will host its first Formula 1 Grand Prix.There’s another fact that few should ignore: when Sheikh Mo says something will be done, he has a habit of getting his way.Quite how contestants will manage with summer-time heat approaching 50 degrees Centigrade has not been explained, but air-conditioned stadiums are not out of the question.Officially the bidding process for the 31st Olympiad is already open, with a decision expected to be announced in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2009. Already in the running are Chicago, Prague, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Baku, Doha and Madrid.Dubai was a formal entrant (for 2016) but reportedly withdrew its application. Already declared for 2020 are Rome, Delhi, possibly Istanbul, possibly Nairobi.
