Doha offers the IOC unlimited resources but also thorny issues
"Rich with possibility" (click here to read) It is the title of a critic article about DOHA 2016 candidature By Alan Abrahamson
At nbcolympics.com
In my opinion, this article place a black shadow over Doha's candidature, relating it with the corruption-related scandal sparked by Salt Lake City's winning bid for the 2002 Winter Games. And the fact that the Russians spent well north of $40 million to win the 2014 Games .
Even the journalist brought here the fact that Qatar has never sent a female athlete to compete at the Olympics, Asking if it would be enough to disqualify the Doha Candidature.
what do you think about this article???
Do you think that USA media start to play dirty?
Odds to be 2016 Olympics finalist
Chicago tribune informed
Chicago: It would be a shock for a major U.S. city not to make cut, despite global antagonism toward U.S. 4-5.
Madrid: Third in voting for 2012. 3-5.
Tokyo: 1964 Olympic Games host, frequent site of major international events. 3-5.
Rio de Janeiro: Geopolitical correctness makes it nearly impossible to eliminate first recent serious bid from South America. 8-5.
Doha, Qatar: May be finalist for same reason as Rio, even though tapping into oil money is the only reason to entertain the idea of an Olympics in this small, overheated country. 7-1.
Prague: Magnificent city that bid for no apparent reason, given minimal government support. 75-1.
Baku: Who? Where? Oil-rich city bid simply to get some recognition. 100-1.

2016 Olympic Games hopefuls eye IOC shortlist
ATHENS (Reuters) - Seven cities bidding for the 2016 Olympics will hear on Wednesday whether they have made an International Olympic Committee shortlist, allowing them to enter a final round of bidding ahead of next year's decision.
The IOC's Executive Board will pick an unspecified number of cities for the shortlist, before candidates submit detailed files and allow IOC evaluators to inspect their bids ahead of the decision in October 2009.
Olympic hopefuls Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Doha look set to make the cut.
Czech capital Prague and Azerbaijan's Baku are seen as the outsiders in the race.
"The selection will be based on a detailed assessment by an IOC working group of each applicant city's ability to organize successful Games in 2016," the IOC has said.
Chicago is banking on a solid and well-backed bid and the fact that by 2016 it will have been 20 years since a U.S. city hosted the Games. Atlanta staged them in 1996.
Tokyo, which hosted the Games in 1964, is eager to present its revamped image and says its bid will not be hampered by another Asian capital staging this year's Games.
Madrid bid for the 2012 Games, losing out to Paris and eventual winners London, and the Spaniards want to capitalize on their momentum and what was seen in 2005 as a very good but unlucky proposal.
Rio, which will host matches during the 2014 soccer World Cup in Brazil, also staged last year's successful Pan-American Games, a considerable boost for their own Olympic chances.
Doha also hosted successful Asian Games in 2006 but many believe the step up to become a serious contender in this race is still too big for Qatar's capital with a population of about 500,000.
Prague officials have publicly said a bid for the 2020 or 2024 Games was more realistic while Baku is also seen as a premature bid with most of the basic infrastructure needed for the Games not yet in place.

Doha 2016 chances look bright at Athens meeting

Doha • Come tomorrow, Qatar's dream to get into the prestigious list of five Candidate Cities by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics Games, hopefully, will be realised. IOC will announce the five Candidate Cities tomorrow in Athens at 6.30pm Doha time.
The seven Applicant Cities for the 2016 Games are Doha, Chicago, Prague, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Baku and Madrid. The grape wine has it that Doha may get the nod along with Chicago, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid as Baku and Prague are reported to be trailing in the vigorous campaign.
Al Kass and Al Jazeera television channels will telecast live from the venue, SportAccord, in Athens where the announcement will be made. The announcement can also be viewed live online via a webcast at www.olympic.org. Hassan Ali bin Ali, Chairman of the Doha 2016 Bid Committee, will attend the crucial IOC session along with a delegation consisting of Doha 2016 and QOC representatives.
Hassan added: “We will do things that have never before been done by an Olympic Host City, offering opportunities for the youth of the world to change their lives forever. Doha 2016 could really be an Olympic and Paralympics Games that will change the world. It would be an honour to host the greatest sporting event in the Arab world for the first time.”

dreaming of Doha receiving the Olympic flag
Doha's Olympics: If we build it, they will come
Beijing is more than two months away and work has barely begun on the stadium to host the event in 2012 but, already, the race to follow London as the host of the 2016 Olympics is heating up nicely and will reach a crucial phase in Athens, host of the last Games, on Wednesday.
There the ruling executive board of the International Olympic Committee will reduce the current group of seven cities vying to host the Games to a shortlist. Whatever they decide, it will be a landmark decision in the history of the Olympic movement.
Of the seven candidates, one in particular is vexing the minds of the lords of the rings. Normally a country less than half the size of London and with a population of fewer than a million would not stand a chance of making a shortlist alongside cities such as Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.
But the gas- and oil-rich Muslim state of Qatar is not a normal country and officials in this tiny peninsula that juts out into the Arabian Gulf are already dreaming of Doha receiving the Olympic flag at the closing ceremony in London to indicate they will be the next host city.
